About this sitter
We are John and Mel, a mature, married, non-smoking couple who both have a lifelong love for animals. We have background checks, insurance and excellent references. We provide photo message updates for your peace of mind.
My education was pre-veterinary and I was a vet tech for 12 years (and more recently, a yoga teacher). John has had a menagerie including tropical birds, cats, rabbits, guinea pigs, etc. I call him the "cat whisperer", because even the most timid of felines will eventually find its way to his lap.
John works remotely and now that the kids are gone we're quite mobile! We love to travel and especially like to experience places more as "locals" than "tourists". We're a quiet couple, quite content with each others' company and we don't like crowds. We have no pets at this time through attrition -- we decided it was time for us to be free to travel. But that doesn't mean we don't miss having them around!
Aside from the veterinary work, I grew up with Bouviers des Flandres dogs (very large) and as an adult I bred and showed them, and participated in animal rescue. I also worked caring for hired guard dogs and can handle some pretty tough customers, as well as reassure the tiniest lap pooch. Your pets' needs such as medication, injections, etc. will be met.
In addition to the professional and family pet care, John and I have owned and personally renovated almost a dozen homes over the years and are quite capable of handling house emergency issues. We can provide excellent, recent references.
What do we bring to the assignment? Wow, decades and decades of experience. Knowledge in the detection and prevention of issues developing in either your beloved pets or your home, and the wisdom to know what to do about it. I also hold a real estate license so if your home happens to be on the market you will be assured it will show beautifully under our care.
